Summer Beauty Survival Guide!

Published June 14, 2015 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

So because the UK is actually getting some sun at the moment, I thought i’d do a post about my beauty tips for summer. Personally I’m a bit of a summer Grinch, however as It’s only June it hasn’t fully developed yet!

But in all seriousness, try to stay shielded or atleast protected from the sun when you can. Every summer I get cocky and think ‘ah it wont matter just this one time.’ then I end up with the meanest sunburn;

1) St Moriz Instant Self Tanning Mousse – £3  (At wilkinsons)

I personally prefer fake tan to natural tan, because NO TAN LINES, and besides I view fake tan like a makeup product. Sometimes I want to change my look up by being a bit tan, sometimes I like being very pale, and with fake tan you have that freedom. The colour is also very natural, it isnt orange or even slightly green which most tans are, definately non-oompa-loompa and non-shrek territory.

The tan smells slightly when you put it on, though I think that’s unavoidable with fake tan. It also dries completely within 5-10 minutes so you can just wack on clothes and waddle round the house.

It’s only £3, and it’s the best fake tan I’ve ever tried, I’ve convinced my mum and some friends to start using it this summer too! If permanent tan isn’t your thing they also have a wash off instant tan (which I have but havent used yet!). SAM_8043

2) SUNGLASSES (Extra points if they’re cute too…)

Sunglasses are really great in summer for many reasons. First of all you look like a major badass, and secondly they protect your eyes from UV-a and UV-b rays (ideally get Polaroid sunglasses if you can).

I got my heart ones because I thought they were funky and I like kawaii style accessories. I think I got them from amazon or Tmart for about £3 a pair. I’ve got my eyes set on a red pair at the moment. I’m trying to restrain myself you see. SAM_8049

3) SPF In Your Makeup –

If you wear makeup most of the time, having spf in your makeup makes the whole ‘being safe in the sun’ thing a lot easier. Most of my favourite foundations like revlon colorstay, estee lauder doublewear and clinque even better have between spf 6 and 15 in them.

Mac do this especially well with their studio finish concealer which has SPF 35! I have the shade nw20, and love it because despite being full coverage, it sits nicely under your eyes and on spots.  SAM_8044SAM_8037

(wearing mac studio fix concealer nw20, and estee lauder double wear maximum cover foundation spf15- 1N3 creamy vanilla)

Another makeup product I love for the summer is the Elf conditioning lip balm SPF 15 (£3.75).

Your lips are the only part of your face that don’t produce their own natural oils, so keeping your lips hydrated is important as the sun can dry your lips out. Furthermore they have SPF15 and provide really opaque colour. The packaging’s a bit chunky but atleast it’s in a pot. Ive had many lipstick melt on me before then they’re a pain to use as the actual product has melted (AHEM MAC CREMESHEEN LIPSTICKS). SAM_8053

4) Drink water, LOTS of water…

I always say this to everyone because I genuinely think the biggest reason my skin has cleared up is because I drink SO MUCH water. And as you sweat more in summer, the water needs to be replaced. Homeostasis, yo.

I also discovered this blog post from Oscar Insurance that gets into some of the other ways to get your vitamin D through your food rather than the sun. If you want some information on Oscar your can check them out online for more on their NY or NJ health insurance services.

5) Hair Oils

Many people neglect their hair in the summer, your hair can get damaged by the sun, just as your skin can. Apart from the obvious tips like wearing a hat and not using heat tools, apply an argan oil to the ends of your hair you keep your shiny and healthy.

Too Old For Hello Kitty? COURSE NOT!

Published June 24, 2012 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

So today I felt like I hadn’t done a nail post in a while, so I thought I would. I love hello kitty…I love cats in general! I was playing round with my nail varnishes and remembered the time I went through a phase of wearing hello kitty nails, so I did them. I think the other fingers are cute too, they look like toad stools.

I didn’t make up the idea of hello kitty nails, you can google them and find a hundred variations!

So heres some photos of my nails!

So here’s my attempt. Have you ever tried hello kitty nails before? Do you think you can ever be too old for hello kitty?

Ok guys thanks for reading! xoxo

Pop Your Pout!

Published May 31, 2012 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

So today,to get in the summery mood, I thought Id do a post about swapping your neutral lipstick for a bright one. I Spent time looking through my lipsticks to find some colours which work for all skin tones

Often when we do ‘summer makeup’ we just go for a barely-there look, which to me doesn’t feel that summery at all. You can still do neutral makeup but maybe just a pop on the eyes or lips. In the summer I prefer putting a pop of colour on my lips which you can match with your nail polish or just your overall outfit. So here you go, 3 pics of bright lipsticks that brighten up not only your face but your day and outfit as a whole! 🙂

These pictures are without flash, so the colours dont look as bright, here a swatch of the lip sticks in flash.Image

left to right:

Sleek true colour lipstick – candycane £4.00

L’oreal rouge caresse lipstick- impulsive fuchsia £7.99

Mac lipstick- New York apple £13.50

Hope you enjoyed and maybe thinking to use a bright lipstick in your makeup routine soon. Have  a great week!

Yellow & Fuchsia fix! – a makeup trend to look out for…

Published May 2, 2012 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

Today I am going to be talking about a look ive seen quite a few times recently. I saw it on Nicki Minaj in her video super bass, and also as in my avon catalogue. It’s going to be about fuchsia and lemon yellow nails and makeup, it doesn’t always have to be lemon yellow but it has a nicer contrast in my opinion.

Her are some examples of the look I did on myself, I took the pictures on my ipod.

I personally wouldn’t wear this full-out look everyday, it’s quite dramatic and bright. However, I do like to have a bronze smokey eye and fuchsia lips going on, if ya know what I mean?

I know some of you reading this may think, it may be a very unflattering look, it may be down to opinion, but actually you’ll be suprised how complementing this look is in beauty technical terms, lol.

3 Reasons fuchsia and yellow is flattering

. First of all fuchia has cool, blue tones to it, which means when you wear it on your lips it makes your teeth look whiter! This goes for any cool toned lipstick, however it is more prominant in fushia as its more of a purpleish- blue.

. Next, yellow is one of the best colour to wear on your eyes, it is universally flattering and brightens the white in your eyes and makes them pop.

. Lastly as fuchsia has purple tones in it and yellow and purple are on opposite sides of the colour wheel, they flatter each other immensely. It really brightens a dull face when you wear this combo and may distracr from other problems you have for example acne. If you have something going on in another part of your makeup, people tend to focus on that, not a pssible spot you have on your chin etc.

Random: Here a nice quote i found recently:

Everything has beauty, but not everyone see’s it

I hope you enjoyed reading this post, thank you very much,

Nail Natter! – spring faves, best formulas, favourite styles…….

Published April 10, 2012 by majormakeupmadness

ImageThis, post is going to be all about my favourite nail varnishes for spring and summer: some inspired by trends and others just great all-rounders. Some of these products are just sold in the Uk (I think!). I know the Barry M nail paints and the 17 polish you may have a difficulty finding, but the others I think are easily reachable if your in the US.

First of all, Pastels are always a HUGE trend in  spring/summer, especially spring. I have 4 nail paints by barry M that are perfect, and they are all the same tone of pastel, none of them are significantly lighter or darker than the others. Here’s a picture of them! 🙂 ImageFrom left to right the shades are: Lemon icecream, Strawberry Icrecream, Berry Icecream and Blueberry Icecream. I must say, I love the summery names! These are some great pastel nail varnishes I recommend. However, Barry M is not widely available outside the UK, so another suggestion for cute pastel nail varnishes is Revlon. The do some equally amazing colours.ImageFrom Left to Right: 17-Glisten, Barry M-Coral, NYC-Midtown and Rimmel- Hot Shot.

These colours I just thought were great all-rounders. I love the 17 polish because I love the duo-crone: one minute it looks gold and the other it looks a pinky-peach colour- absolutely GORGEOUS!

I love the Barry M coral colour becuase Corals are really in for summer and go with every outfit!

I love the Nyc polish becuase it looks so cute and girly.

And I love the Rimmel polish, for the same reason as the Barry M polish, so beautiful on the nails!

*Sorry for the over use of the word ‘Polish’ *-*

ImageThe last nail varnish I thought I’d just add in for fun. I adore glitter so for me it’s a necessity for it to be included in this post. Regardless of the fact it has blue and silver glitter, it looks great over any nail varnish and Im not just saying that!

Last of all……..

I thought I’d show you what I have on my nails right this moment (I did them earlier).ImageI like the style where you paint all your nails one colour and accentuate the colour by painting your ring finger a different colour. It can be any colour really. It could be a colour the same shade but darker? It could be a contrasting colour? Or it could be a neutral colour or a funky metalic? – Go ahead do any combo you want.  Want purple nails with orange on your ring finger? -You go for it girl!

I would like to take the time now to thank Tomiko for nominating me for the Versatile Blogger award! Check out her blog here

Thank you for reading my post. Much love,

Bargain Beauty! summer ready makeup with just 4 Products!!!!!!

Published April 2, 2012 by majormakeupmadness

I thought it would be nice to do a makeup look  for spring/summer which incorporated beauty trends, mainly highstreet/drugstore makeup brands and was long wearing. I chose these products because the colours would complement all hair colours, eye colours, skin colours and everything. The look is meant to accentuate your natural beauty, not cover it up! This look is quick and easy, and is great for beginners or if you’re on the go as it requires no brushes whatsoever

So to kick things off you may want to start off with some sort of base. You wont need this step if you’re blessed with clear skin, but for those that aren’t (me included) you want to use a foundation or tinted moisturizer depending on what coverage you want. Im going to use Revlon colorstay foundation (the combination/oily skin version – if you have drier skin theres a formulation for you aswell 🙂 ) like I said you may want to use a tinted moisturizer, one I would recommend is the benefit ‘you rebel’ range of tinted moisturizers. The Revlon foundation provides a nice medium/full coverage and you dont even need to use concealer! – just put a bit of extra foundation in areas in need of more coverage. x                        I use the shade 150 Buff.

Next, I would use an eyeshadow (yep, because im an eyeshadow freak). I would try to use a cream shadow that is long-wearing, for this im using Mac’s Paint pot in ‘Bare Study‘. It is a beautiful champagne colour (see pictures below), it would look lovely on light to medium skin tones, for an alternative you could use the shade ‘Rubenesque’ if you have medium to dark skin tones, its similar but is more of a warmer golden peach colour (though you could use both rubenesque or bare study on all skin tones, but if we’re working with the theme of ‘natural’ then it’s a good guideline to work with). Just use your finger and cover you lid with the eyeshadow.

You would want to use a waterproof mascara for summer… I mean no-one wants to be the person that gets out of the pool with mascara down their face! You could use any water proof mascara but I like maybellines great lash as its cheap. Just apply in zig-zag motions to cover each individual lash.

Now here’s a little money-saving tip you can use your lipstick, cream blush or  a tinted lip balm (if its not sticky) on your lips and cheeks! Lately ive       been loving  the new Revlon lip butters, I like the shade ‘Peach Parfait’ as its natural and is on trend as it is a coral colour. The colour is quite warm-toned so you may want to use a slightly cooler lipcolour is you have more cool/pink tones in your skin. just dab on your cheeks and apply to your lips for the finished look.

Optional: For all you oily skinned people like me, you may want to carry blotting papers or powder round with you so stop you getting as oily through out the day.

Revlon Colorstay- £12.49

Mac paint pot- £14.50

Maybelline Great Lash- £4.99

Revlon Lip Butters- £7.99

(also mentioned) Benefit ‘you rebel’ tinted moisturiser – £23.50

I hope you enjoyed reading and will try out this look. Comment any suggestions for future posts please! Stay Beautiful, Bye xx
