Autumn Favourites!

Published November 14, 2015 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

I HAVE BEEN AWFUL AT POSTING. But the last few months I’ve gotten a lot done.

I completed my AS exams and got all A’s (Biology, Maths, Physics, Chemistry) and I’ve applied to 5 universites (Warwick, Exeter, Bath, Southampton, Surrey) to do either a Bachelors or Masters in Biomedical science, and I’ve got offers from all! Over the summer I also completed a 100 hour open university course in Human genetics and health issues.

So it’s been busy busy.

But today I got inspired to do a talky post so I thought I’d do an autumn favourites!

 1) LUSH Helping Hands hand cream £7.951126

I picked this up about a month ago, because somehow all my hand creams disappeared. I thought it’d be best get to get a more natural product because in my head I thought it’d be more moisturising. Its very good and sinks in quite quickly. Its the first time in ages that my hands havent felt all dry and crusty.

2) MAC Mineralize Skinfinish – Soft & Gentle £24.0011271128

Must say, I’m not a huge fan on the new MAC mineralize packaging, but sacrifices have to be made!

Its a really pretty beigey-champagne, that looks great as an eyeshadow or highlight. I’ve recently been loving highlighting my cupids bow when im wearing lipstick as it makes my lips look more pouty & fierce.

The highlighter is very versatile too, you can get really subtle and really dramatic looks with it. As im not a huge highlighter person I usually only use a bit on my cheeks. Plus you get a butt-tonne of product!

3) MUA Mosaic Blush- English Rose £2.50

11311132

This remains one of my cheapest and favourite blushes in my collection, and is actually a recent repurchase (hence it not looking too shabby!). What I love with this blush is that the colour comes off as a natural rosy-pink but when the light hits it it has a lilac sheen which is GORGEOUS.

Even when using some more high-end makeup, I still layer this over the top sometimes. Even with my oily skin, it gives a pearly finish that I can actually tolerate.

At £2.50 you can’t go wrong, and it may even work its way up into your daily makeup routine.

4) Collection Eyes Uncovered Palette- Nude Grey £3.99

11341135

My next favourite is this palette from collection. Collection have really reinvented themselves as a brand in the last year, and this palette is no exception.

What particularly makes me happy about this palette is that there’s a matte highlight shade, and a matte black. It really has all the colours I would use for a neutral eyeshadow look. I only bought this because I’ve recently dyed my hair black and thought cool tones might look better, and Im so glad I have this now!

Again, when it’s only £3.99 it’s a steal, and would make a great stocking stuff at christmas too. Yes I’m one of those people with early christmas fever.

5) Eyelure pro-brow dye kit- black £7.50

11291120

As I recently dyed my hair black (see above) I needed to dye my eyebrows black too. This was just before I dyed them black, but as you can see they looked a bit out of place with my hair.

And I found this eyebrow dyed was really easy to use, and didn’t dye my skin black when I used it.

I thought i’d never see the day when I dyed my eyebrows…

6) Necklace

 1130

I thought i’d just add this in, because I find with autumn/winter, I wear a lot of darker clothes so I tend to bring a bit of brightness with this necklace sometimes.

I got this at a vintage emporium for 99p.  NINETY NINE PENCE OH MY. That’s what i’d clarify as a ‘Bangin’ deal’.

So yeah, GO BUY YOURSELF A BRIGHT NECKLACE. BRIGHTEN THE WORLD.

So that’s it for my autumn favourites, What things have you been loving recently?

Thanks for reading!

Easy, One shadow Smokey Eye!

Published January 31, 2015 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

I feel like every time I start a post I murmur about infrequent posting. But yeah, life happens, yano.

Anyways, today I was super pumped because I was going to a vintage warehouse, where they have loads of vintage clothes and furniture and oh… it was so great. I got some sequin pumps FOR £3 Holla holla .

If you have anywhere like that near you, GO AND BECOME ENLIGHTENED. Im actually going to a vintage fair next weekend with my friend klara. What is it about ‘vintage’ things that have gotten me so excited at the moment?

Ok so now for the tutorial:

1) As always, start off fresh faced. Brace yourselves.SAM_7752

2) Next I do my whole face routine (foundation, concealer, powder) and my eyebrows. I didn’t show this because it doesn’t really change.  BTW do you like my mario necklace?SAM_7758

3) Next I apply an eyeprimer to my eyes as a base for my eyeshadow. I then apply a thin layer of translucent powder on top on my eyelids.  I don’t usually do this, but as I’m only using one eyeshadow, I want to be able to really blend it out to make it smokey. The translucent powder just helps the colour blend much more smoothly. SAM_7762

4) Next I apply the copper shade on my eyelid and under my lashline. Then BLEND to your hearts extend. I ran a fluffy crease brush across my eyelid and up above my crease.

You’d be amazed the effect you get with just one colour.SAM_7766

5) Next I apply a shiny pearl eyeliner in my inner corner to brighten up my eyes. SAM_7770

6) Next I apply a brown eyeliner pencil to my top lashline and in my waterline. You could smudge the eyeliner to make it look more smokey. However, If you’re incredibly lazy like me, a leaving it does the trick. SAM_7772

7) Next curl your lashes and mascara them babies up! SAM_7780

8) And by sticking to tradition, I apply some fake lashes and once they’re on, I secure them in place with another coat of mascara. Be proud, these lashes are very unwhorelike for me. SAM_7785

9) Next I contour my face with a matte bronzer to add some dimension to my face.SAM_7789

10) Next I apply blush to the apples of my cheeks and blend backwards.SAM_7793

11) To finish the look I slightly overdraw my lips with brown lipliner, then apply a nude lipstick on top. Ta da!SAM_7804SAM_7812SAM_7806

Sun and Seas – Makeup tutorial!

Published November 1, 2013 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

I hope you’re all having a fantabulous week so far. So despite the cold, rainy weather here in the UK, I thought id do a brighter makeup tutorial to counteract it!

But just a few updates first:

. Thanks SO much for reading, commenting and following my blog. It makes me so happy to read all the comments and interact with people who share the same love for beauty as me.

. I love doing tutorials and stuff, but I was wondering if any of you had requests for what you’d like to see for future posts?

. And Im really excited becauseon twitter yesterday I won a £150 ELF bundle! Im so excited!!! *mini rave party*

. I also got an instagram recently so you can follow me here > http://instagram.com/hazelstjernberg

And also today im going to use my Urban Decay palette which is the same one I used in my Emerald City makeup tutorial:Image

So lets start with the tutorial!

1) Prime your eyes with an eye primer, and this is optional but I apply a waterproof cream shadow to KICK ASS to my oily eyelids which want to ruin my eyeshadows.Image

2) Next I apply the colour ‘Peace’ to my entire eyelid, I even take this down to my inner corner.Image

3) Next I apply ‘Zero’ to the outer third of my eyelid and blend so the blue slowly fades into the black. Image

4) Next I apply ‘Shag’ to my crease. This adds subtle definition and tones the look down ever-so-slightly. Image

5) Next I apply ‘Honey’ to my lower lashline. The warm yellow and the cool blue contrast and make the eyes really stand out. Image

6) I then apply a matte highlight to my browbone (as always). Then I apply black liquid liner to my upper lashline making it gradually thicker towards the outer edge. Image

7) Next im gonna swap my usual black on my waterline for a white eyeliner. Considering we’re already wearing coloured shadows, I wanted to brighten up my eyes with white. Image

8) Next im gonna apply mascara to my eyelashes. As an eyelash clump brings the family closer together. Image

9) Now for my favourite, FLASE EYELASHES. Ive been using the same eyelashes for ages. And im using the same ones now. However I ordered more and got them yesterday, so new lashes will be making appearances. They’re from Tmart.com .Image

10) To finish off the look I apply a warm brown blush and apply a peach tinted lip balm. Image

Feeling the summer blues? I am…

Published June 30, 2012 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

So today’s post is going to be about something scary… what everyones scared of most in the beauty world… blue eyeshadow!

So today im going to show you 3 looks in which you can wear blue eyeshadow in varied amount of intensity. So even if you want to use a blue toned grey, or not go all out, there is a look for you. Heres what I came up with:

LOOK 1Image

LOOK 2Image

LOOK 3Image

Look 1:

Maybelline color tattoo eyeshadow – Turquose Forever

Look 2:

Maybelline eyestudio eyeshadow quad – Blue Drama

Look 3:

Mac eyeshadow – Fresh Water

Maybelline color tattoo eyeshadow – On and on Bronze

I don’t understand why people don’t embrace blue eyeshadows more often. I mean come on we all have them somewhere in our collection!

5 Reasons to wear blue eyeshadow:

. It brightens up your face, nothing says ‘ta da’ like a great blue eyeshadow

.You can use them in many ways as ive shown, so you can wear them in a way so their suitable for everyday makeup.

. They go with all eye colours especially brown.

. They go with all skin tones from light to deep. There is a beautiful contrast with pale skin, On tan skin they look uber summery, and on deep skin the show up really well. Gorgeous!

. There are many great formulas at relatively inexpensive prices.

Would you wear blue eyeshadows? – comment below!

Thank you for reading, have a great weekend!

So real they’re fake! – false lash finatics

Published May 8, 2012 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

So todays post is going to be about false lashes. What types are my favourites, the effect they have, a little mini haul I guess.

Wow, would you believe it? False lashes have become more and more recent purchases of woman and men in the last year or two. Mainly to the fact that celebrities wear them n a day-to-day basis and look so effortlessly glamorous. It become a common thing to see celebrities and people who appear on TV regularly to wear false lashes.

False lashes come in many shapes and forms. You can get individual lashes, strip lashes and lash extensions. And each may vary, some may be made of plastic, others natural hair and fibres. And then there’s colour, brand and size.

My favourites are individual lashes, because I find that they look most natural and dont hit my glasses constantly. You can just add 3 or 4 to the outer third of your eye for that ultra-glam, wide-eyed, elongated effect. I also like the ones which have brown and black hairs in as it blends better with your natural lashes.

Here’s my eyes today with 4 lashes on the outer edge of my eye, can you tell?  😀ImageI didn’t want a dramatic difference, just something for a nice change, you know what I mean? I am using the Ardell lashes featured below.

Here’s some lashes I picked up over the weekend: Image

I also

ordered from elf on saturday, so there will be a haul when the products arrive,

Do you think false lashes are worth it?

Yellow & Fuchsia fix! – a makeup trend to look out for…

Published May 2, 2012 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

Today I am going to be talking about a look ive seen quite a few times recently. I saw it on Nicki Minaj in her video super bass, and also as in my avon catalogue. It’s going to be about fuchsia and lemon yellow nails and makeup, it doesn’t always have to be lemon yellow but it has a nicer contrast in my opinion.

Her are some examples of the look I did on myself, I took the pictures on my ipod.

ImageImageImageImageImage

I personally wouldn’t wear this full-out look everyday, it’s quite dramatic and bright. However, I do like to have a bronze smokey eye and fuchsia lips going on, if ya know what I mean?

I know some of you reading this may think, it may be a very unflattering look, it may be down to opinion, but actually you’ll be suprised how complementing this look is in beauty technical terms, lol.

3 Reasons fuchsia and yellow is flattering

. First of all fuchia has cool, blue tones to it, which means when you wear it on your lips it makes your teeth look whiter! This goes for any cool toned lipstick, however it is more prominant in fushia as its more of a purpleish- blue.

. Next, yellow is one of the best colour to wear on your eyes, it is universally flattering and brightens the white in your eyes and makes them pop.

. Lastly as fuchsia has purple tones in it and yellow and purple are on opposite sides of the colour wheel, they flatter each other immensely. It really brightens a dull face when you wear this combo and may distracr from other problems you have for example acne. If you have something going on in another part of your makeup, people tend to focus on that, not a pssible spot you have on your chin etc.

Random: Here a nice quote i found recently:

Everything has beauty, but not everyone see’s it

I hope you enjoyed reading this post, thank you very much,

XOXO

Primer 101 – What? When? Who? How?

Published April 29, 2012 by majormakeupmadness

Hello, Hope your all having a Fantastic weekend.

This post today is going to be about primers. It’s going to answer:

.What a primer is

.When you apply primer

.Who needs primer/ Why is it important

.How you make your own primer

What is a primer?

A primer is a makeup product you apply too pro-long the staying power of the product you are going to put on top, whether that be a lipstick, eyeshadow or foundation. There are other benefits as well, a primer tends to make the product you put on top , go on a lot smoother and generally look brighter. You can also get primers with colour in. You can get coloured eye primers and foundation primers (usually green/ or purple to cancel out other skin problems).

When do you apply Primer?

You apply your primer before you put on your foundation, lip product, eyeshadow, mascara. It acts as a base to improve the staying power, results and application.

Who needs a primer?

Primers aren’t always essential, for me personally I would always say eye primers are important and foundation, lip and eyelash primers aren’t so much. Though others may say the complete opposite. Im going to go down a list and say why you may need each type of primer.

Foundation- You may need a foundation primer for many reasons as they’re are a ton of different formulations for each one. In general people use primers to: help with oily skin, smooth out imperfections (wrinkles, lines etc), make it last longer. Those are the main reasons.

Lip-  You may need a lip primer if you want your lip colour to stay on longer or even improve the colour pay off. Some people also use lip primers to stop a lipstick from bleeding.

Eyelash- You may want to use an eye;ash problem to improve the performance of your mascara. Some with add fibres to your lashes to make them longer, others will cancel out the colour of your lash (the colour will show through more) and act as a base to make sure your mascara does not run as easily.

Eye- These are the most commonly used out off the others. It is usually used by people with oily eyelids. An eyeshadow primer stops eyeshadow from collection in the crease of your eye, improve the vibrancy of the colour, stop fading  and help make them product last longer.

Here are my 3 favourite eyeshadow primers: Image

Too faced shadow insurance, Urban Decay primmer potion, elf eyelid primer (sheer).

How can you make your own eyeshadow primer?

You can make one very easily, it wont be quite as good but it will be a descent competitor against the others. I used it for a while before I went out and bought ‘branded’ eye primers.

you need:

. a small pot

. a foundation (the fuller coverage the better)

. a concealer (preferably a stick or pot concealer)

. a moisturizer

. a cotton bud

In the pot mix equally parts of concealer, foundation and moisturiser- the the mixture is made out of equal thirds.

Mix them together with a cotton bud.

Then, there you have it, your own home-made primer!

Hope you enjoyed, thanks for reading!
