Summer Beauty Survival Guide!

Published June 14, 2015 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

So because the UK is actually getting some sun at the moment, I thought i’d do a post about my beauty tips for summer. Personally I’m a bit of a summer Grinch, however as It’s only June it hasn’t fully developed yet!

But in all seriousness, try to stay shielded or atleast protected from the sun when you can. Every summer I get cocky and think ‘ah it wont matter just this one time.’ then I end up with the meanest sunburn;

1) St Moriz Instant Self Tanning Mousse – £3  (At wilkinsons)

I personally prefer fake tan to natural tan, because NO TAN LINES, and besides I view fake tan like a makeup product. Sometimes I want to change my look up by being a bit tan, sometimes I like being very pale, and with fake tan you have that freedom. The colour is also very natural, it isnt orange or even slightly green which most tans are, definately non-oompa-loompa and non-shrek territory.

The tan smells slightly when you put it on, though I think that’s unavoidable with fake tan. It also dries completely within 5-10 minutes so you can just wack on clothes and waddle round the house.

It’s only £3, and it’s the best fake tan I’ve ever tried, I’ve convinced my mum and some friends to start using it this summer too! If permanent tan isn’t your thing they also have a wash off instant tan (which I have but havent used yet!). SAM_8043

2) SUNGLASSES (Extra points if they’re cute too…)

Sunglasses are really great in summer for many reasons. First of all you look like a major badass, and secondly they protect your eyes from UV-a and UV-b rays (ideally get Polaroid sunglasses if you can).

I got my heart ones because I thought they were funky and I like kawaii style accessories. I think I got them from amazon or Tmart for about £3 a pair. I’ve got my eyes set on a red pair at the moment. I’m trying to restrain myself you see. SAM_8049

3) SPF In Your Makeup –

If you wear makeup most of the time, having spf in your makeup makes the whole ‘being safe in the sun’ thing a lot easier. Most of my favourite foundations like revlon colorstay, estee lauder doublewear and clinque even better have between spf 6 and 15 in them.

Mac do this especially well with their studio finish concealer which has SPF 35! I have the shade nw20, and love it because despite being full coverage, it sits nicely under your eyes and on spots.  SAM_8044SAM_8037

(wearing mac studio fix concealer nw20, and estee lauder double wear maximum cover foundation spf15- 1N3 creamy vanilla)

Another makeup product I love for the summer is the Elf conditioning lip balm SPF 15 (£3.75).

Your lips are the only part of your face that don’t produce their own natural oils, so keeping your lips hydrated is important as the sun can dry your lips out. Furthermore they have SPF15 and provide really opaque colour. The packaging’s a bit chunky but atleast it’s in a pot. Ive had many lipstick melt on me before then they’re a pain to use as the actual product has melted (AHEM MAC CREMESHEEN LIPSTICKS). SAM_8053

(Left to Right: Blissful berry, Nice&natural, Peaceful pink, Romantic rouge)

4) Drink water, LOTS of water…

I always say this to everyone because I genuinely think the biggest reason my skin has cleared up is because I drink SO MUCH water. And as you sweat more in summer, the water needs to be replaced. Homeostasis, yo.

I also discovered this blog post from Oscar Insurance that gets into some of the other ways to get your vitamin D through your food rather than the sun. If you want some information on Oscar your can check them out online for more on their NY or NJ health insurance services.

5) Hair Oils

Many people neglect their hair in the summer, your hair can get damaged by the sun, just as your skin can. Apart from the obvious tips like wearing a hat and not using heat tools, apply an argan oil to the ends of your hair you keep your shiny and healthy.

Thank you for reading.

Easy summer makeup!

Published August 5, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

Long time no see, how have you all been?

Last time I mentioned anxiety getting me down and it is actually getting better, ive been prescribed some tablets which help me sleep so that’s good. Ive also been watching the TV show ‘The 100’ since I last posted. In the UK they’ve only showed up to episode 4 or 5, but im not gonna lie…I watched all 13 epsiode online in a weekend. I actually like it, Im not a big TV person (other than a good bit of Jeremy Kyle ❤ ). My favourite character is Lincoln, me and my friends have this joke that I am the grounder pounder to Lincoln (the pounder grounder). It comes from the episode where Murphy calls Bellami’s sister a grounder pounder and that BY FAR is my favourite line.

So yeah, thats enough chit chat for now….

Today I was going out with a friend shopping and then making cheesecake (oreo cheesecake, you jelly?) so I thought id show me doing ‘quick makeup’, which is rare because im more of an ‘all or nothing’ girl, i’ll either go super-stripper with my makeup or wear none at all.

So here it is:SAM_7279

It may seem like a lot of products but I did my makeup today in about 20 minutes? For me this is good.

1) FRESH FACED TIME. Start with a freshly cleansed face. Im using a bar face wash from Clinique at the moment. SAM_72552) Next I apply a tinted moisturizer all over my face and neck. I’m using one from benefit which has spf15 in, if your base product doesn’t have spf, us a facial suncreen before. SAM_72583) Next I apply liquid concealer under my eyes,on my nose, on the apple of my cheeks and on my chin. This is where I completely ruin the whole ‘au naturale’ look because I like to have NO DARK CIRCLES. Its the price I have to pay I guess. SAM_72604) Next I apply a translucent powder all over my face and neck. I tend to apply lots more powder than I need because I know that within an hour of wearing my makeup it will be nicely matte and not over powdery. SAM_72625) Next I apply bronzer to my temples, under my chin, around my nose and primarily under my cheeks. I usually use bronzer then a darker contour powder for my cheeks, but im keeping it quick and easy today. SAM_72636) Next I use a medium brown eyeshadow to fill in my brows. I have a love-hate relationship with my brows and this is definately a day im not liking them, so please excuse them! SAM_72647) Next I curl my lashes and apply 2 coats of black mascara to my top and bottom lashes. BRIGHTEN UP THEM PEEPERS.SAM_72718) Next I apply false lashes with black eyelash glue. The black lash glue looks a bit like eyeliner once the lashes are on, this saves time and means you need no eyeliner! SAM_72749) All thats left is applying a red lipstick! Personally I don’t think I can pull off bright red lipstick the way some people can, so I opted for a more subtle raisiny red. WALLAH, THE FINISHED LOOK.SAM_7281SAM_7303

Prom get ready with me 26/06/14

Published June 27, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

I appologize for not posting in forever, long story short I had lots of exams and have really bad anxiety, so I had about a month of no sleep. But the exams are over now and im gradually dealing with anxiety.

Now for the exciting stuff, yesterday I had my prom. And whilst prom is often built up to be more than it is, I enjoyed getting ready and 4 hours with new and old friends at prom.

As always, I’ll post the finished makeup look first. SAM_7149

Now to start with no makeup!

Image

Foundation (believe it or not I tried not to over-do it with foundation).

Image

Concealer, under my eyes and a bit on my cheeks so ‘blank out’ my skin colour so I could add in colour later with bronzer and blush.

Image

Translucent Powder

Image

Eyebrow wax, powder and setting gel.  This is a monumental moment because I actually like how my eyebrows look here.Image

Eye primer

Image

All that glitters eyeshadow all over the lid and on my lower lashline.Image

Woodwinked in the crease.

Image

Satin taupe in the outer crease and lid. I also put it on the outer half of my lower lashline.Image

Browbone highlight with Brule.   *unexpected lighting change*Image

Now for an inner corner highlight!Image

Now for liquid liner on my top lashline and black gel liner on my waterline (Because yano apparantly I cant do anything different with eyeliner).

Image

Next for my favourite part, Mascara and eyelashes. I can even tell you how much I love Ardell demi wispie lashes.

Image

Bronzer time.

Image

Neext I apllied a darker contour colour and placed it under my cheekbones and under my chin (because I dont recommended double chins for prom).

Image

Now for a bit of matte coral blush on the apples of my cheeks. I blend it back into the contour so it all blends into eachother.

Image

All thats left is lipstick. Im not the biggest fan of lipgloss so I skipped on that. Image

For my hair, I curled it in sections and back-combed the hair surrounding my face. I then used a ton of hairspray, potentially enough to create another ozone layer.

I promised to show what I was wearing in an earlier blog posted when I briefly talked about prom. I had a bit of an adventure finding dresses. The one im wearing was actually my third prom dress. The first I saw in person but they didnt have my size so I ordered it online (it was by Jane Norman by the way). The next I got from Victorias dress, £25 shipping (I almost died when I saw that) and £70 for a custom made dress which was completely different from the picture and made me look like an obese fairy it was this one > http://www.victoriasdress.co.uk/a-line-high-neck-sleeveless-tulle-party-dresses-with-ruffles-fj921.html

In a third attempt for a prom dress, I went shopping in person and despite it not being very prom-like I bought a flamingo dress by the brand Henry Holland.

So here are some pictures I took before I went to prom:

Makeup Revolution Haul/Review!

Published May 20, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

So a couple of weeks ago I ordered from Makeup Revolution, which I had never heard of before until recently. Its an affordable brand with tons of products in multiple shades, and most of the stuff is £1! No you are not hallucinating…£1 like the one pound fish man but with lipsticks…

Anyway I ordered 6 lipsticks out of pure curiosity and also because I’ve never seen a yellow lipstick, nor known where to get one. So I went a bit colour crazy in hope that I might unlock a unquenchable desire for blue or purple lips one day. I thought that it would be a interesting brand to share and I might order some of the eyeshadows or nail varnishes next; the colour range is fantastic.

Here are the lipsticks:

Image

Image

Really this post has no purpose, I was just so intrigued by the colours and thought some of you may get as excited as I do over things like these. I found the purple, orange and pink to be very smooth, and the other colours harder and a bit more waxy. The pigmentation was generally very good too, the yellow didn’t blow me away however im not sure if it’s because it bright yellow or it was weaker shade.

Here are some pictures of me wearing them:

Amazing Lipstick- Depraved

Amazing Lipstick- Immoral

Image                                            Amazing Lipstick- Vice

Image

Amazing Lipstick- Encore

Image

Amazing Lipstick- Nude

The yellow lipstick was in the shade ‘felony‘ however I couldn’t take a good picture of it on. Needless to say, I think that shade will only be making appearances at halloween!

Overall I was impressed with the lipsticks I tried. I loved the purple and orange, and was pleasantly  surprised. They’re very vivid and eyecatching, in the best of ways. Overall the brand reminds me of MUA, by the high quality at a low price. The biggest fault I can think of is the loose packaging so put in your handbag with care!

UPDATED SKINCARE ROUTINE

Published March 30, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

I’ve never been one to obsess over skincare. The way I saw it was ‘take off your makeup, wash you face and moisturize’. I never understood why people would spend £20+ for a cleanser when it stays on your face like 2.5 seconds before you wash it off. However, in the last few weeks I’ve been investing in good skincare. I still wouldn’t pay for ridiculously priced skincare like ‘creme de la mer’ or ‘dermalogica’ but I think slightly higher priced skincare often does the trick.

So here’s an overview of my skincare: Image

L to R:

.Liz Earle cleansing polish   50ml pump    £8.50

.Korres Pomegranate tonic lotion  200ml      £14.00

.Korres Pomegranate Moisturizing cream-gel oily/combination skin  40ml     £19.00

.Korres Wild rose instant brightening mask   16ml   £7.00

.Korres Pomegranate cleansing scrub   16ml   £7.00

If you didnt already know, I have a very oily skin type, so I try to minimize oil production with cleansers and toners but as the same time moisturise my skin so I don’t set my skin in oil-production-overdrive. I separate my skincare into 2 sections: everyday products and special products (as shown below).Image

This is my everyday skincare. In the morning  I double cleanse my face with the Liz Earle cleansing polish, then pour toner on a cotton pad and wipe all over my face and neck. Finally I take able a pea sized amount of moisturizer and spread all over my face and neck. I do exactly the same in the evening but I take my makeup off first. I didn’t include a makeup remover simply because I don’t have a favourite.

Image

This is my ‘special’ skincare. I exfoliate my skin in the evening every other day (on average). It may sound a lot, however my pore get really clogged (ew, I know..) so exfoliating is my attempt at minimizing this.

The other product is the Korres Wild rose brightening mask. The ‘wild rose’ range from Korres is more aimed at drier skins, however I think every skin type can benefit from a moisturizing mask. It’s also brightening so makes your skin look revitalized after use. I tend to use this about 2-3 times a week in the evening. I tend to leave it on for an hour and do work or read whilst having it on (looking beautiful and being productive- what’s not to love!).

So thats my basic skincare. I took some no-makeup photos to show the state of my skin now. You cant truly see all my inperfections, but I dont have any active breakouts. I still get the occasional blemish but it’s not an often occurance. My biggest skin problem is acne scars, but there’s nothing immediate I can do about that. Heres my skin now: ImageImage

Of course, there’s only so much that products can do. I personally think that the best way to clear up your skin is too drink lots of water. I know it sounds cliche but its really the best way. < Poetic as hell right there.

Anyway, Thanks for reading, have a fabulous weekend! What are your favourite skincare products?

XOXO

Prom makeup tutorial! – 2 lip options.

Published March 8, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys, So I couldn’t decide whether to do a colourful spring tutorial, or a prom tutorial. But as me and my friends have been scouting around for dresses recently I thought this was more relevant. Despite my prom not being til late june, I know some peoples are as early as april, so I thought it would be a good time to do one.

For this tutorial ive included 2 options, the eyes aren’t colourful so I though youcould get away with red lips or a soft pink. Id personally go for the pink, but each to their own. Here’s the 2 looks:

Look 1

Look 1

Look 2

Look 2

Both looks are exactly the same apart from the lips, so lets get started!

1) After doing your base and eyebrows, prime your eyelids. Make sure you use a long-lasting primer. SAM_6570 2) Next apply a pearl-finish ivory colour across your entire eyelid. SAM_6578 3) Next apply a warm matte brown in your crease and blend. SAM_65864) Next apply a bright gold underneath your lashline. I applied quite a lot but go with the amount you’re comfortable with.SAM_6594 5) Next apply a shimmery white eyeliner in your inner corner. This really brightens up your eye, and if you dont do this step usually- you should! I think it’s universally flattering. SAM_6596 6) For my top lashline I draw a medium-thickness line across my line and get thinner towards my inner corner. If you want to wing the liner out, go ahead. But winged liner isn’t flattering on me personally. For the waterline, use a gold eyeliner. I didn’t have a gold liner so I used white then put the same gold eyeshadow that we just used, and patted that on  top carefully. SAM_66007) Next curl your lashes and apply 2 coats of black mascara to your top and bottom lashes. Afterall, A girls gotta have her mascara! SAM_66048) Next  apply long fake eyelashes to my top eyelashes. I use black eyelash glue, however its quite fiddly so if you’re new to false eyelashes I suggest you use a clear glue so you can tell if you got it everywhere! SAM_66079) Next contour your face with a matte bronzer. Please, please, PLEASE do not use an orange-toned bronzer. It will make a classy look appear tacky and unflattering. SAM_660910) Next apply a blush which looks natural with your skin tone, for me its a light peach. Here’s what id recommend:

.Fair skin- matte earthy brown

.Light skin- matte peach

.Medium skin- matte coral or bronze

.Dark skin- matte muted plum SAM_6611 11) If going for look 1, line your lips with a nude lipliner (and slightly exaggerate your lips if needed) and then apply a lipgloss slightly lighter than your natural lip colour.SAM_6623SAM_6627 12) For look 2, use a matte red lipstick/lip crayon and apply to your lips.SAM_6617SAM_6613   Those are the finished looks! I hope i’ve helped you out if you’e looking for a prom look. Oh course, this isn’t restricted to prom, it could be a going out look or Im just wearing it normally today!

Makeup of the day – Aqua Pop + Hair update!

Published August 22, 2013 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

So today I was just going to do a little makeup of the day and hair update.

You can probably tell from my posts that I like lots of eye makeup, and I usually make my eyes the feature. But today I wanted to wear less eye makeup but still make my eyes stand out. So I used coloured liner! Its a more natural look for me. 😉

Id also like to say thanks to the lovely people who have nominated me for awards recently, you know who you are 🙂

Im also wearing some other lashes from Tmart (because I ordered more but in a different style).Heres my makeup: ImageImageImageImage

So its neutral pink lips and cheeks, neutral eyeshadow, bright liner and false lashes. Here the makeup I used! ImageImage

HAIR UPDATE!

Ok, so my hair looks really red today, because I re-dyed it yesterday. Only one box this time, hehe!

RED HAIR – WHY U FADE SO FAST!!!!

So, if you cant tell. Red hair is nice, but it needs to be maintained. I have another box of dye so i can keep up the red for longer.

Thanks for reading!
