Makeup Revolution Haul/Review!

Published May 20, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

So a couple of weeks ago I ordered from Makeup Revolution, which I had never heard of before until recently. Its an affordable brand with tons of products in multiple shades, and most of the stuff is £1! No you are not hallucinating…£1 like the one pound fish man but with lipsticks…

Anyway I ordered 6 lipsticks out of pure curiosity and also because I’ve never seen a yellow lipstick, nor known where to get one. So I went a bit colour crazy in hope that I might unlock a unquenchable desire for blue or purple lips one day. I thought that it would be a interesting brand to share and I might order some of the eyeshadows or nail varnishes next; the colour range is fantastic.

Here are the lipsticks:

Really this post has no purpose, I was just so intrigued by the colours and thought some of you may get as excited as I do over things like these. I found the purple, orange and pink to be very smooth, and the other colours harder and a bit more waxy. The pigmentation was generally very good too, the yellow didn’t blow me away however im not sure if it’s because it bright yellow or it was weaker shade.

Here are some pictures of me wearing them:

The yellow lipstick was in the shade ‘felony‘ however I couldn’t take a good picture of it on. Needless to say, I think that shade will only be making appearances at halloween!

Overall I was impressed with the lipsticks I tried. I loved the purple and orange, and was pleasantly  surprised. They’re very vivid and eyecatching, in the best of ways. Overall the brand reminds me of MUA, by the high quality at a low price. The biggest fault I can think of is the loose packaging so put in your handbag with care!

Awakening Easter makeup tutorial!

Published April 19, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

Sorry for not posting for 2 weeks, but exams are coming up EWWW. But regardless, I have an easter tutorial for you guys today. The only sad thing is that I only went out to the corner shop for about 10 minutes, so I did all this makeup for just a cashier and a few cars passing by to see…great….

Ok, so I feel like ive been stuck just using neutral colours recently so I wanted to use some brighter colours as easter is all about the rebirth of living things and its like the rebirth of me using colourful eyeshadows again. I didn’t plan out this tutorial, It just came about by the lilac eyeshadow im using in the look. Its funny how little things inspire you.

As always, here’s the finished look:SAM_6975

So lets get started:

1) Apply a good eyeprimer to your lids.Image

2) Apply a wash of a pearly ivory colour from your lashline to your brow (feel free to use a slightly darker colour like a beige if you have darker skin).

Image

3) Using a damp, flat eyeshadow brush, apply a metallic champagne colour across your eyelid.Image

4) Apply a pearly lilac to your bottom lashline. The champagne and lilac should meet at the corner of your eye.Image

5) Next using a turquoise gel eyeliner, I line my top lash line from my inner corner to the outer edge of my eye. Image

6) Next im NOT going to use black eyeliner on my waterline (SHOCKER), Im actually going to use a nude colour as it gives your eyes that ‘awake’ look.

Image

7) Next curl your lashes and apply mascara to your upper and lower lashes.Image

8) Now for my favourite bit… LASHES! Id recommend using a clear eyelash glue as we’re not using black eyeliner. However I only have black glue so I just had to use a hella lot of precision.Image

9) Next I contour my: cheeks, chin, forehead and nose with a dark matte bronzer. I then apply a little bit of light pink blush to the apple of my cheeks.

Image

10) Now for the lips. You can do any lip with this look really, I couldn’t decide between lilac or berry. But I was feeling the purple vibe so viola…

ImageImage

And that’s the finished look!

UPDATED SKINCARE ROUTINE

Published March 30, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

I’ve never been one to obsess over skincare. The way I saw it was ‘take off your makeup, wash you face and moisturize’. I never understood why people would spend £20+ for a cleanser when it stays on your face like 2.5 seconds before you wash it off. However, in the last few weeks I’ve been investing in good skincare. I still wouldn’t pay for ridiculously priced skincare like ‘creme de la mer’ or ‘dermalogica’ but I think slightly higher priced skincare often does the trick.

So here’s an overview of my skincare: Image

L to R:

.Liz Earle cleansing polish   50ml pump    £8.50

.Korres Pomegranate tonic lotion  200ml      £14.00

.Korres Pomegranate Moisturizing cream-gel oily/combination skin  40ml     £19.00

.Korres Wild rose instant brightening mask   16ml   £7.00

.Korres Pomegranate cleansing scrub   16ml   £7.00

If you didnt already know, I have a very oily skin type, so I try to minimize oil production with cleansers and toners but as the same time moisturise my skin so I don’t set my skin in oil-production-overdrive. I separate my skincare into 2 sections: everyday products and special products (as shown below).Image

This is my everyday skincare. In the morning  I double cleanse my face with the Liz Earle cleansing polish, then pour toner on a cotton pad and wipe all over my face and neck. Finally I take able a pea sized amount of moisturizer and spread all over my face and neck. I do exactly the same in the evening but I take my makeup off first. I didn’t include a makeup remover simply because I don’t have a favourite.

Image

This is my ‘special’ skincare. I exfoliate my skin in the evening every other day (on average). It may sound a lot, however my pore get really clogged (ew, I know..) so exfoliating is my attempt at minimizing this.

The other product is the Korres Wild rose brightening mask. The ‘wild rose’ range from Korres is more aimed at drier skins, however I think every skin type can benefit from a moisturizing mask. It’s also brightening so makes your skin look revitalized after use. I tend to use this about 2-3 times a week in the evening. I tend to leave it on for an hour and do work or read whilst having it on (looking beautiful and being productive- what’s not to love!).

So thats my basic skincare. I took some no-makeup photos to show the state of my skin now. You cant truly see all my inperfections, but I dont have any active breakouts. I still get the occasional blemish but it’s not an often occurance. My biggest skin problem is acne scars, but there’s nothing immediate I can do about that. Heres my skin now: ImageImage

Of course, there’s only so much that products can do. I personally think that the best way to clear up your skin is too drink lots of water. I know it sounds cliche but its really the best way. < Poetic as hell right there.

Anyway, Thanks for reading, have a fabulous weekend! What are your favourite skincare products?

XOXO

Day to Night MOTD!

Published March 23, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

Sorry for the lack of posts, I’ve just been really busy!

So last saturday it was my birthday and I was going to do a tutorial of my birthday makeup, but long story short, I forgot on saturday and was too tired to do it sunday – sorry! However today it was my friend Maya’s birthday meal at TGIF. So im gonna show you the makeup I wore in the day, and then how I vamped it up for the evening. I even got my friend Veronika to do a makeup of the day and show her outfit (its very Sweden-esque and beautiful).

So here’s my day makeup:

Image

Image

Its a simple brown smokey eye with nude-pink lips. I was going to do something exciting…but in the end I went with a neutral look. Here’s the makeup I used:

ImageImage

And then as I changed up my lips for the evening, I went with a bright purple from the Little Mix collection by collection because that’s totally not hard to say.

Image

I dozily found that my camera deleted the pictures of me wearing the purple lipstick, but im sure I’ll do a post with it soon!

Now for Veronikas look. We were in a arcade, which explains the colourful background. And if you learn nothing from my blog, please know that im an ABSOLUTE BOSS at air hockey!Image

Despite her being Russian (yano, because pretty much all my friends are foreign…), we both have a love for Sweden. So her outfit is primarily H&M. I love it, I like the way the leather skirt and blazer dress up the outfit without being ‘over-dressed’. Furthermore, I like the colour-blocking with the lemon yellow clutch and navy blazer (again, Swedish colours. Can you see the pattern here?) .Image

Veronika had her hair up and this was towards the end of the evening so of course everyones hair is going to be a bit messed up. But the thing I get jealous about with Vera is that she always looks fabulous, I mean, no one pulls glasses off that well am I right?

I asked her what lip colour she was wearing (because its a beautiful rich pink) and its Avon Colourtrend- Passion aswell as L’étoile’s – Rouge sexy.

Ive never done a blog post with one of my friends in it, so this is a first.

Products used:

.Revlon colourstay foundation- 150 Buff

.Collection lasting perfection concealer- Cool Medium

.Maybelline matte maker powder- ivory

.Sleek face form contouring kit- medium

.Mac mineralize blush- Warm soul

.Elf studio powder blush- pink passion

.Nyx eyebrow cake powder- taupe/ash

.Too face shadow insurance- candlelight

.Urban decay naked palette (virgin,sin,buck,smog,darkhorse)

.Avon supershock gel eyeliner pencils- black and flash

.L’oreal superliner- black

.maybellin colossal volume cat eyes mascara- black

.T-mart lashes

.Mac lipstick-freckletone

.Nars lipgloss-Turkish Delight

.Collection little mix lipstick- Perrie

Anyway I hope you all had a fabulous weekend; thanks for reading!

Prom makeup tutorial! – 2 lip options.

Published March 8, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys, So I couldn’t decide whether to do a colourful spring tutorial, or a prom tutorial. But as me and my friends have been scouting around for dresses recently I thought this was more relevant. Despite my prom not being til late june, I know some peoples are as early as april, so I thought it would be a good time to do one.

For this tutorial ive included 2 options, the eyes aren’t colourful so I though youcould get away with red lips or a soft pink. Id personally go for the pink, but each to their own. Here’s the 2 looks:

Look 1

Look 1

Look 2

Look 2

Both looks are exactly the same apart from the lips, so lets get started!

1) After doing your base and eyebrows, prime your eyelids. Make sure you use a long-lasting primer. SAM_6570 2) Next apply a pearl-finish ivory colour across your entire eyelid. SAM_6578 3) Next apply a warm matte brown in your crease and blend. SAM_65864) Next apply a bright gold underneath your lashline. I applied quite a lot but go with the amount you’re comfortable with.SAM_6594 5) Next apply a shimmery white eyeliner in your inner corner. This really brightens up your eye, and if you dont do this step usually- you should! I think it’s universally flattering. SAM_6596 6) For my top lashline I draw a medium-thickness line across my line and get thinner towards my inner corner. If you want to wing the liner out, go ahead. But winged liner isn’t flattering on me personally. For the waterline, use a gold eyeliner. I didn’t have a gold liner so I used white then put the same gold eyeshadow that we just used, and patted that on  top carefully. SAM_66007) Next curl your lashes and apply 2 coats of black mascara to your top and bottom lashes. Afterall, A girls gotta have her mascara! SAM_66048) Next  apply long fake eyelashes to my top eyelashes. I use black eyelash glue, however its quite fiddly so if you’re new to false eyelashes I suggest you use a clear glue so you can tell if you got it everywhere! SAM_66079) Next contour your face with a matte bronzer. Please, please, PLEASE do not use an orange-toned bronzer. It will make a classy look appear tacky and unflattering. SAM_660910) Next apply a blush which looks natural with your skin tone, for me its a light peach. Here’s what id recommend:

.Fair skin- matte earthy brown

.Light skin- matte peach

.Medium skin- matte coral or bronze

.Dark skin- matte muted plum SAM_6611 11) If going for look 1, line your lips with a nude lipliner (and slightly exaggerate your lips if needed) and then apply a lipgloss slightly lighter than your natural lip colour.SAM_6623SAM_6627 12) For look 2, use a matte red lipstick/lip crayon and apply to your lips.SAM_6617SAM_6613   Those are the finished looks! I hope i’ve helped you out if you’e looking for a prom look. Oh course, this isn’t restricted to prom, it could be a going out look or Im just wearing it normally today!

Products Used:

.Benefit porefessional primer

.L’oreal Infallible 24hr foundation- 120 Vanilla

.Collection lasting perfection concealer- Cool Medium

.Elf complexion perfection powder-cool

.Avon glow matte bronzer- medium riviera

.Nyx powder blush- Angel .Nyx eyebrow cake powder- Taupe/ash

.Too Faced shadow insurance- candlelight

.Naked 1 palette (virgin,buck,half-baked)

.Elf studio cream eyeliner- black

.MUA colour intense eyeliner-snow white

.Maybelline one by one mascara

.T-mart lashes   http://www.tmart.com/10-Pairs-Same-False-Eyelashes-P9_p187107.html

February Favourites!

Published March 3, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

So today im going to do a monthly favourites post. I was debating whether to do a tutorial tomorrow and upload it or to do a favourites post, and as I dont do these often and am actually on time to do one this month, so I thought why not?

So here are my fabulous favourites:SAM_6545

So. Now that you’ve seen all my favourites and there’s NO element of surprise left, lets talk about my favourite hair product this month!

My first product is the Schwarzkopf got2b 2 sexy hairspray. Im not a girl who’s too fussy on hairspray, as long as it keeps my hai frizz free nd holds my hair in place, then its fine. This does both that and smells deliciously fruity too! I would highly recommend this and at £4.07 how can you not? Plus, the bottles pink too… you know how im a sucker for packaging.Image

Ok…i’ll admit it. I can sometimes get stuck in a rut where i’ll just use the same product over and over when I have tons to use (First world problems, am I right?). And since christmas, the only shower gel ive used is the Soap&Glory Sugar Crush Bodywash. It smells really strongly of lime but also smells creamy and sweet too. Its been 2 full months and im only just half way through the bottle, so for £6.50 you’d get approximately 4 months of showers out of it. And is it just me who loves big bottles of product with pumps? Their so easy to use and mean you dont have to faff around with soap in the shower and drop everything…or maybe thats just me..

Image

This month I have 2 skincare favourites.

My first favourite is the LUSH Tea tree water. This a toner infused with tea tree and grapefruit water which is extremely beneficial to those with spot-prone oily skin. I spray this on my face after cleansing and let it soak in, then apply moisturizer. I think it really helps with spots as it antibacterial and it just feels fresh. As we approach spring/summer its a nice product to carry with you so you can spritz it on your face you refresh yourself. A 100g bottle is £3.95, so if you have a lush near you id definately recommend trying it. They also have excellent toners for normal/dry skins.

Im sometimes lazy with applying moisturizer in the day, but at night I always use the Nivea Rich Regenerating Night cream. Despite having oily skin, I like to properly moisturize my skin at  night as thats when your skin properly repairs itself. I also drink a glass of water just before I sleep as it clears up my skin. I think this moisturizer gives your skin a really nice glow and doesnt feel sticky or too heavy. It says its suitable for sensitive/dry and at £4.07 it’s budget friendly too.Image

Next are my favourite 3 blushes this month. I’ve been a bit of a blush whore this month…woops.Image

(L to R: MUA- candyfloss, MUA-Marshmalow, MAC- well dressed)

The MUA blushes were a rather recent discovery, whenever I was in superdrug,it was always the thing I over-looked thinking ‘It’s only £1, its probably chalky and terrible’. Oh how I was wrong. They are really smooth and pigmented, I only have 2 pink shades but plan on getting more (especially as I can begin to use my upcoming birthday as an excuse!). But seriously, if you can get your hands on them do. MUA ship worldwide, but I know paying for shipping is a problem for people, but I often tweet their good shipping deals if they have any. totally not promoting my twitter at all.

The mac blush in ‘well-dressed’ isn’t the most pigmented blush, MUA definately win on that factor, but it gives such a youth-ful pink flush to your cheeks and I absolutely love it. But it is quite expensive at £18 – thats 18 MUA blushes!

My next favourite is the Nivea vanilla and Macadamia lip butter. Other than smelling absolutely gorgeous, this lipbutter is really thick and feels so nourishing on your lips. Its the sort of lipbalm than i’ll put a thick layer on my lips at night so it can work its magic whilst I sleep. Theres also a raspberry one which I have, but this one is my love at the moment. I really want to try the caramel one too, Again, my birthday is the 15th so I might get it as a present for myself, especially as its only £2.25.

SAM_6523

Last but not least is my favourite nail polish of the month. This month its the Models Own hyper gel effect nail polish in ‘Naked glow’. My favourite nail polish finish is glossy, so these hypergel polishes were right up my treat, and their new aswell. There are 10 shades which are all beautiful. I’ve been quite liking nude polishes recently as they make your nails look polished but not ‘overdone’. Thats rather hilarious coming from me who were literally an ounce of make every day, but it makes a nice change. They’re £5 each from boots or superdrug by the way.

SAM_6524SAM_6541

That concludes my February favourites (I hope I haven’t bored you too much!). I hope you had a wonderful February, and that march will be even more magical for you.

Thanks for reading.

XOXO

Spice you your Lips!

Published February 15, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey Guys,

May I first apologize for no posts for 3 weeks! I have not died, Ive just been super busy, but atleast I have this week free so I can post more, yay!

Oh my gosh, my friend introduced me to this show ‘Reign’ this week. Its SOO good. Its about Mary queen of Scots and Francis and it’s loosely based on history in the 1500’s. AND, only half the first season is out so you’re not that far behind if you want to watch it, because I definately did not watch all 11 episodes yesterday. Im still heartbroken from the show, I just had to get it out.

Anyway today is a post about Orange lips. Im much more of a neutral girl when it comes to lips, I tend to play up my eyes as you’ve probably observed. But I really want to start wearing brighter lip colours this year, its a makeup resolution of mine I suppose. Ive had this product for over a year, but I never gave it the love it deserves. Its the MUA Power Pout colour intense tint & balm in Justify. What a mouthful…

Here’s what it looks like:

ImageImage

Its quite sheer, but the colour can be worked up. As I have quite pinks naturally it turns more coral on me, but the less pink you have, the orange the lip colour will be. They have quite good lasting power. Think of it as the MUA version of the Revlon kissable balm stains. Less pigmented but almost a third of the price!

As I dont do it often, I was stunted with what sort of eye makeup to go with it. I ended up putting a light champagne on the lid, brown gel liner, black mascara and false lashes (Of course!).

Here’s the look:

ImageImage

Im not gonna lie, I still find it hilarious how pale my camera makes me. IM NOT EVEN THAT WHITE.

I think one of the tricks for orange lips, is making sure you have some sort of blush on as otherwise the orange can wash you’re skin colour out. Despite my camera doing exactly that.  I used coral by sleek on my cheeks and minimal bronzer.

I know todays post was quite brief, but I feel like my posts have LITERALLY just been tutorials, so I wanted to add something slightly different into the mix. Im thinking about doing a favourites post next?

Thanks for reading,

XOXO
