Summer Beauty Survival Guide!

Published June 14, 2015 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

So because the UK is actually getting some sun at the moment, I thought i’d do a post about my beauty tips for summer. Personally I’m a bit of a summer Grinch, however as It’s only June it hasn’t fully developed yet!

But in all seriousness, try to stay shielded or atleast protected from the sun when you can. Every summer I get cocky and think ‘ah it wont matter just this one time.’ then I end up with the meanest sunburn;

1) St Moriz Instant Self Tanning Mousse – £3  (At wilkinsons)

I personally prefer fake tan to natural tan, because NO TAN LINES, and besides I view fake tan like a makeup product. Sometimes I want to change my look up by being a bit tan, sometimes I like being very pale, and with fake tan you have that freedom. The colour is also very natural, it isnt orange or even slightly green which most tans are, definately non-oompa-loompa and non-shrek territory.

The tan smells slightly when you put it on, though I think that’s unavoidable with fake tan. It also dries completely within 5-10 minutes so you can just wack on clothes and waddle round the house.

It’s only £3, and it’s the best fake tan I’ve ever tried, I’ve convinced my mum and some friends to start using it this summer too! If permanent tan isn’t your thing they also have a wash off instant tan (which I have but havent used yet!). SAM_8043

2) SUNGLASSES (Extra points if they’re cute too…)

Sunglasses are really great in summer for many reasons. First of all you look like a major badass, and secondly they protect your eyes from UV-a and UV-b rays (ideally get Polaroid sunglasses if you can).

I got my heart ones because I thought they were funky and I like kawaii style accessories. I think I got them from amazon or Tmart for about £3 a pair. I’ve got my eyes set on a red pair at the moment. I’m trying to restrain myself you see. SAM_8049

3) SPF In Your Makeup –

If you wear makeup most of the time, having spf in your makeup makes the whole ‘being safe in the sun’ thing a lot easier. Most of my favourite foundations like revlon colorstay, estee lauder doublewear and clinque even better have between spf 6 and 15 in them.

Mac do this especially well with their studio finish concealer which has SPF 35! I have the shade nw20, and love it because despite being full coverage, it sits nicely under your eyes and on spots.  SAM_8044SAM_8037

(wearing mac studio fix concealer nw20, and estee lauder double wear maximum cover foundation spf15- 1N3 creamy vanilla)

Another makeup product I love for the summer is the Elf conditioning lip balm SPF 15 (£3.75).

Your lips are the only part of your face that don’t produce their own natural oils, so keeping your lips hydrated is important as the sun can dry your lips out. Furthermore they have SPF15 and provide really opaque colour. The packaging’s a bit chunky but atleast it’s in a pot. Ive had many lipstick melt on me before then they’re a pain to use as the actual product has melted (AHEM MAC CREMESHEEN LIPSTICKS). SAM_8053

(Left to Right: Blissful berry, Nice&natural, Peaceful pink, Romantic rouge)

4) Drink water, LOTS of water…

I always say this to everyone because I genuinely think the biggest reason my skin has cleared up is because I drink SO MUCH water. And as you sweat more in summer, the water needs to be replaced. Homeostasis, yo.

I also discovered this blog post from Oscar Insurance that gets into some of the other ways to get your vitamin D through your food rather than the sun. If you want some information on Oscar your can check them out online for more on their NY or NJ health insurance services.

5) Hair Oils

Many people neglect their hair in the summer, your hair can get damaged by the sun, just as your skin can. Apart from the obvious tips like wearing a hat and not using heat tools, apply an argan oil to the ends of your hair you keep your shiny and healthy.

Thank you for reading.

Easy, One shadow Smokey Eye!

Published January 31, 2015 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

I feel like every time I start a post I murmur about infrequent posting. But yeah, life happens, yano.

Anyways, today I was super pumped because I was going to a vintage warehouse, where they have loads of vintage clothes and furniture and oh… it was so great. I got some sequin pumps FOR £3 Holla holla .

If you have anywhere like that near you, GO AND BECOME ENLIGHTENED. Im actually going to a vintage fair next weekend with my friend klara. What is it about ‘vintage’ things that have gotten me so excited at the moment?

Ok so now for the tutorial:

1) As always, start off fresh faced. Brace yourselves.SAM_7752

2) Next I do my whole face routine (foundation, concealer, powder) and my eyebrows. I didn’t show this because it doesn’t really change.  BTW do you like my mario necklace?SAM_7758

3) Next I apply an eyeprimer to my eyes as a base for my eyeshadow. I then apply a thin layer of translucent powder on top on my eyelids.  I don’t usually do this, but as I’m only using one eyeshadow, I want to be able to really blend it out to make it smokey. The translucent powder just helps the colour blend much more smoothly. SAM_7762

4) Next I apply the copper shade on my eyelid and under my lashline. Then BLEND to your hearts extend. I ran a fluffy crease brush across my eyelid and up above my crease.

You’d be amazed the effect you get with just one colour.SAM_7766

5) Next I apply a shiny pearl eyeliner in my inner corner to brighten up my eyes. SAM_7770

6) Next I apply a brown eyeliner pencil to my top lashline and in my waterline. You could smudge the eyeliner to make it look more smokey. However, If you’re incredibly lazy like me, a leaving it does the trick. SAM_7772

7) Next curl your lashes and mascara them babies up! SAM_7780

8) And by sticking to tradition, I apply some fake lashes and once they’re on, I secure them in place with another coat of mascara. Be proud, these lashes are very unwhorelike for me. SAM_7785

9) Next I contour my face with a matte bronzer to add some dimension to my face.SAM_7789

10) Next I apply blush to the apples of my cheeks and blend backwards.SAM_7793

11) To finish the look I slightly overdraw my lips with brown lipliner, then apply a nude lipstick on top. Ta da!SAM_7804SAM_7812SAM_7806

Frizzy Hair!!! – Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts to smooth hair!

Published October 5, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

So I’ve struggled with curly, frizzy hair all my life. I have natural curly hair and until recently I always had it straightened, which to wash, blowdry and straighten takes 3 hours! So through trial and error ive found some tricks which have helped me and id like to share.

I was inspired to do this post by the ‘Own your bed head’ campaign by ‘Casper’. Casper is a mattress company, the mattress’ are luxury and made out of latex and memory foam. You can check them out here. > https://casper.com/mattresses

The campaign is all about embracing/helping frizzy hair, because unless you’re one of those godly people blessed with sleek, straight hair, frizz is something  we all have just in different quantities.

Heres my hair today. This is my freshly washed hair when I let it air dry:

SAM_7365

I swear my eyes look slightly dozey here, but oh well. It’s a good representation of myself I guess!

So here are my tips which I find helpful:

.Tying you hair in braids before you sleep, not only gives you beautiful waves the next day with NO EFFORT, but also keeps frizz away as your hair is tied up!
 .
.Hair Argan oils are also a savior. Any hair can benefit from oil and you can keep travel sized bottles with you to smooth fly-aways down throughout the day. Argan oil has literally saved my hair.
 .
.Rinsing your hair with cold water before you get out the shower really helps with frizz aswell, as it seals the cuticle of your hair so it doesn’t frizz.
 .
.If you have dry frizzy hair, use a light conditioner all over you hair when you shower, it weighs your hair down slightly, which is good if you have very damaged hair like me.
 .
.Try not to wash your hair everyday. I find that my curly hair looks bad if I sleep on it, but the next day i’ll wear my hair in a bun. If you have a problem with greasy hair, use dry shampoo to battle through the second day. Washing every other day is much better than everyday, trust me.
 .
.This is an obvious one, but try not to use much heat or dye your hair much (can you sense the hypocrisy?). Only in the last 2 months have I cut down the heat I use and how often I dye my hair, only because my hair was all falling out and breaking.
PLEASE DON’T LET YOURSELF GET TO THAT POINT!  I used to use heat on my hair every day and dying it red every 2-3 weeks. I not only use heat for occasions I want to look nice and dying it every 6-8 weeks.
I hope my tips have helped you, I hope you have a fabulous rest of the week!
Thanks for reading!
XOXO

Prom get ready with me 26/06/14

Published June 27, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

I appologize for not posting in forever, long story short I had lots of exams and have really bad anxiety, so I had about a month of no sleep. But the exams are over now and im gradually dealing with anxiety.

Now for the exciting stuff, yesterday I had my prom. And whilst prom is often built up to be more than it is, I enjoyed getting ready and 4 hours with new and old friends at prom.

As always, I’ll post the finished makeup look first. SAM_7149

Now to start with no makeup!

Image

Foundation (believe it or not I tried not to over-do it with foundation).

Image

Concealer, under my eyes and a bit on my cheeks so ‘blank out’ my skin colour so I could add in colour later with bronzer and blush.

Image

Translucent Powder

Image

Eyebrow wax, powder and setting gel.  This is a monumental moment because I actually like how my eyebrows look here.Image

Eye primer

Image

All that glitters eyeshadow all over the lid and on my lower lashline.Image

Woodwinked in the crease.

Image

Satin taupe in the outer crease and lid. I also put it on the outer half of my lower lashline.Image

Browbone highlight with Brule.   *unexpected lighting change*Image

Now for an inner corner highlight!Image

Now for liquid liner on my top lashline and black gel liner on my waterline (Because yano apparantly I cant do anything different with eyeliner).

Image

Next for my favourite part, Mascara and eyelashes. I can even tell you how much I love Ardell demi wispie lashes.

Image

Bronzer time.

Image

Neext I apllied a darker contour colour and placed it under my cheekbones and under my chin (because I dont recommended double chins for prom).

Image

Now for a bit of matte coral blush on the apples of my cheeks. I blend it back into the contour so it all blends into eachother.

Image

All thats left is lipstick. Im not the biggest fan of lipgloss so I skipped on that. Image

For my hair, I curled it in sections and back-combed the hair surrounding my face. I then used a ton of hairspray, potentially enough to create another ozone layer.

Image

I promised to show what I was wearing in an earlier blog posted when I briefly talked about prom. I had a bit of an adventure finding dresses. The one im wearing was actually my third prom dress. The first I saw in person but they didnt have my size so I ordered it online (it was by Jane Norman by the way). The next I got from Victorias dress, £25 shipping (I almost died when I saw that) and £70 for a custom made dress which was completely different from the picture and made me look like an obese fairy it was this one > http://www.victoriasdress.co.uk/a-line-high-neck-sleeveless-tulle-party-dresses-with-ruffles-fj921.html

In a third attempt for a prom dress, I went shopping in person and despite it not being very prom-like I bought a flamingo dress by the brand Henry Holland.

So here are some pictures I took before I went to prom:

Day to Night MOTD!

Published March 23, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

Sorry for the lack of posts, I’ve just been really busy!

So last saturday it was my birthday and I was going to do a tutorial of my birthday makeup, but long story short, I forgot on saturday and was too tired to do it sunday – sorry! However today it was my friend Maya’s birthday meal at TGIF. So im gonna show you the makeup I wore in the day, and then how I vamped it up for the evening. I even got my friend Veronika to do a makeup of the day and show her outfit (its very Sweden-esque and beautiful).

So here’s my day makeup:

Image

Image

Its a simple brown smokey eye with nude-pink lips. I was going to do something exciting…but in the end I went with a neutral look. Here’s the makeup I used:

ImageImage

And then as I changed up my lips for the evening, I went with a bright purple from the Little Mix collection by collection because that’s totally not hard to say.

Image

I dozily found that my camera deleted the pictures of me wearing the purple lipstick, but im sure I’ll do a post with it soon!

Now for Veronikas look. We were in a arcade, which explains the colourful background. And if you learn nothing from my blog, please know that im an ABSOLUTE BOSS at air hockey!Image

Despite her being Russian (yano, because pretty much all my friends are foreign…), we both have a love for Sweden. So her outfit is primarily H&M. I love it, I like the way the leather skirt and blazer dress up the outfit without being ‘over-dressed’. Furthermore, I like the colour-blocking with the lemon yellow clutch and navy blazer (again, Swedish colours. Can you see the pattern here?) .Image

Veronika had her hair up and this was towards the end of the evening so of course everyones hair is going to be a bit messed up. But the thing I get jealous about with Vera is that she always looks fabulous, I mean, no one pulls glasses off that well am I right?

I asked her what lip colour she was wearing (because its a beautiful rich pink) and its Avon Colourtrend- Passion aswell as L’étoile’s – Rouge sexy.

Ive never done a blog post with one of my friends in it, so this is a first.

Products used:

.Revlon colourstay foundation- 150 Buff

.Collection lasting perfection concealer- Cool Medium

.Maybelline matte maker powder- ivory

.Sleek face form contouring kit- medium

.Mac mineralize blush- Warm soul

.Elf studio powder blush- pink passion

.Nyx eyebrow cake powder- taupe/ash

.Too face shadow insurance- candlelight

.Urban decay naked palette (virgin,sin,buck,smog,darkhorse)

.Avon supershock gel eyeliner pencils- black and flash

.L’oreal superliner- black

.maybellin colossal volume cat eyes mascara- black

.T-mart lashes

.Mac lipstick-freckletone

.Nars lipgloss-Turkish Delight

February Favourites!

Published March 3, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

So today im going to do a monthly favourites post. I was debating whether to do a tutorial tomorrow and upload it or to do a favourites post, and as I dont do these often and am actually on time to do one this month, so I thought why not?

So here are my fabulous favourites:SAM_6545

So. Now that you’ve seen all my favourites and there’s NO element of surprise left, lets talk about my favourite hair product this month!

My first product is the Schwarzkopf got2b 2 sexy hairspray. Im not a girl who’s too fussy on hairspray, as long as it keeps my hai frizz free nd holds my hair in place, then its fine. This does both that and smells deliciously fruity too! I would highly recommend this and at £4.07 how can you not? Plus, the bottles pink too… you know how im a sucker for packaging.Image

Ok…i’ll admit it. I can sometimes get stuck in a rut where i’ll just use the same product over and over when I have tons to use (First world problems, am I right?). And since christmas, the only shower gel ive used is the Soap&Glory Sugar Crush Bodywash. It smells really strongly of lime but also smells creamy and sweet too. Its been 2 full months and im only just half way through the bottle, so for £6.50 you’d get approximately 4 months of showers out of it. And is it just me who loves big bottles of product with pumps? Their so easy to use and mean you dont have to faff around with soap in the shower and drop everything…or maybe thats just me..

Image

This month I have 2 skincare favourites.

My first favourite is the LUSH Tea tree water. This a toner infused with tea tree and grapefruit water which is extremely beneficial to those with spot-prone oily skin. I spray this on my face after cleansing and let it soak in, then apply moisturizer. I think it really helps with spots as it antibacterial and it just feels fresh. As we approach spring/summer its a nice product to carry with you so you can spritz it on your face you refresh yourself. A 100g bottle is £3.95, so if you have a lush near you id definately recommend trying it. They also have excellent toners for normal/dry skins.

Im sometimes lazy with applying moisturizer in the day, but at night I always use the Nivea Rich Regenerating Night cream. Despite having oily skin, I like to properly moisturize my skin at  night as thats when your skin properly repairs itself. I also drink a glass of water just before I sleep as it clears up my skin. I think this moisturizer gives your skin a really nice glow and doesnt feel sticky or too heavy. It says its suitable for sensitive/dry and at £4.07 it’s budget friendly too.Image

Next are my favourite 3 blushes this month. I’ve been a bit of a blush whore this month…woops.Image

(L to R: MUA- candyfloss, MUA-Marshmalow, MAC- well dressed)

The MUA blushes were a rather recent discovery, whenever I was in superdrug,it was always the thing I over-looked thinking ‘It’s only £1, its probably chalky and terrible’. Oh how I was wrong. They are really smooth and pigmented, I only have 2 pink shades but plan on getting more (especially as I can begin to use my upcoming birthday as an excuse!). But seriously, if you can get your hands on them do. MUA ship worldwide, but I know paying for shipping is a problem for people, but I often tweet their good shipping deals if they have any. totally not promoting my twitter at all.

The mac blush in ‘well-dressed’ isn’t the most pigmented blush, MUA definately win on that factor, but it gives such a youth-ful pink flush to your cheeks and I absolutely love it. But it is quite expensive at £18 – thats 18 MUA blushes!

My next favourite is the Nivea vanilla and Macadamia lip butter. Other than smelling absolutely gorgeous, this lipbutter is really thick and feels so nourishing on your lips. Its the sort of lipbalm than i’ll put a thick layer on my lips at night so it can work its magic whilst I sleep. Theres also a raspberry one which I have, but this one is my love at the moment. I really want to try the caramel one too, Again, my birthday is the 15th so I might get it as a present for myself, especially as its only £2.25.

SAM_6523

Last but not least is my favourite nail polish of the month. This month its the Models Own hyper gel effect nail polish in ‘Naked glow’. My favourite nail polish finish is glossy, so these hypergel polishes were right up my treat, and their new aswell. There are 10 shades which are all beautiful. I’ve been quite liking nude polishes recently as they make your nails look polished but not ‘overdone’. Thats rather hilarious coming from me who were literally an ounce of make every day, but it makes a nice change. They’re £5 each from boots or superdrug by the way.

SAM_6524SAM_6541

That concludes my February favourites (I hope I haven’t bored you too much!). I hope you had a wonderful February, and that march will be even more magical for you.

Thanks for reading.

Sweet and stylish, Doll makeup tutorial!

Published January 25, 2014 by majormakeupmadness

Hey guys,

So today I couldn’t decide whether to do a valentines day tutorial or another tutorial. However, I decided it was slightly too early for a valentines day look quite yet, so I thought of something else – a sweet, doll-inspired look.

Dolls are usually know for their big eyes, porcelain skin and pink lips. So I combined all them factors and added my own touch on it and came up with this:

Image

Its quite a simple tutorial, but at thee same time it’s something I wouldn’t usually wear. So If I did a tutorial on it, you could decide whether it floats your goat or not.

So lets get started!

1) First prime your eyes with an eyeprimer. Make sure its either translucent or matches your skintone. We dont want cooured primers as it may not make the finished result look as ‘pure’,Image

2) Next I apply a pearly white shadow to my lid, lower lashline and underneath my brow. Make sure your white shadow isnt glittery, it will make it look too frosty.

Image

3) Thats it for eyeshadow, so now onto eyeliner. Apply a VERY thin line of black liquid liner to your top lashline. This is for definition and to the lashes will blend in with the liner. Also apply a white pencil liner to your waterline. This will give you that awake, wide-eyed effect, because no doll is ever tired…

Image

4) Next take a black pencil liner and liner your lower lashline. I never usually do this. But its kind of like extending your eye. Image

5) MASCARA TIME!

Image

6) Next I apply lashes. TOTALLY NOT PREDICTABLE FROM ME AT ALL.Image

7) No contouring for this look, as much as I love it. I just apply a bright pink blush to the apples of my cheeks.Image

8) Next I apply a bright lipstick to finish the look. ImageImageImage

Thats the finished look! I hope you enjoyed. For the hair I straightened it, then curled it with straighteners near the ends.

Products used:

Makeup forever mat velvet+ foundation- 20

Collection lasting perfection concealer-light

Elf complexion perfection powder-cool

MUA powder blush- marshmallow

natural collection eyeshadow- crush walnut (used for eyebrows)

Too faced shadow insurance

Urban decay eyeshadow- virgin

Collection 24 hour liquid eyeliner- black

MUA intense eyeliner- snow white

Mac eye kohl- smoulder

Maybelline the rocket mascara- black

Tmart eyelashes

MUA lipstick- shade 3

Hope you enjoyed! Have a great weekend.

XOXO
